DESCRIPTION:The Hamm Sammies\nMaybe it’s because the band is fueled by cheap beer and nice whiskey\, but when the Hamm Sammies set out to write country music\, their groove strayed from the lines. They gravitated toward a more syncopated\, swampy sound: country music played in between the cracks. With a little twang\, some Memphis soul\, plenty of blues\, and even a dash of Sonny Rollins (especially his Way Out West era)\, their arrangements get people off their seats. If they’re not careful\, listeners might accidentally put aside their Midwestern stoicism for the duration of the Sammies’ set. \n23Watts\nTwin City-based four-piece alt-rock band. Founded by guitarist and singer/songwriter Jeff Lemiesz\, who shares lead and rhythm guitar duties with Tim Dempsey. A rhythm section that consists of bassist Shamus Greger and Bill Strohm on drums rounds out the lineup. Together they deliver an eclectic mix of unique material from multiple genres.\nStylistically\, 23 Watts’ music is completely their own\, but not without the trace of influence. Artists like Cheap Trick\, Gov’t Mule\, Kyuss\, Neil Young\, Pixies and Wilco\, among others\, have all undeniably contributed to their sound as a whole. \nMusic \n \n23 Watts aims to establish their brand of “all purpose rock ‘n’ roll” in the rich and vibrant community of artists in the Twin Cities and beyond.

DESCRIPTION:Eli Gardiner\nEli Gardiner is a songwriter from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan\, currently located in Minneapolis Minnesota. Coming of the 2020 release of his album\, The Fire and The Medicine\, he formed his full band comprised of drummer Greg Schutte (Mickey Hart\, Ryan Bingham) lap steel/electric guitarist Dan Schwartz\, keyboardist Kevin Gamble and bassist Nick Salisbury (Ryan Bingham\, Brian Fallon). \nEli grew up in musical household. His mom played flute and piano and his dad classical guitar. Music was always on\, James Taylor\, Jim Croce\, and Bonnie Raitt would be playing as dinner was made and the dishes were washed. Eli’s music is always changing\, morphing to the mood and groove. It can be described as Americana or Rock\, but the themes are deeply rooted in our lives in present day\, what it means to be a human and to be sympathetic to other people. Its also about our connection\, how we are all the same and crave that understanding that music can bring at its most transcendental times. \nSamuel John\nHailing from the small town of Braham\, MN\, Samuel John found his musical calling through the inspiring performances of his mother\, a pianist and vocalist\, and witnessing his brother Ben drum for a touring country band. Samuel\, also a frequent concert-goer\, drew inspiration from watching his favorite songwriters in the independent country and rock scene.

DESCRIPTION:Mike Cohen\, a versatile saxophonist and woodwind player based in New York City\, has an impressive list of collaborations including the Duke Ellington Band\, Eric Person big band\, Ray Vega\, Hank Jones\, Harvey S\, Jeff “Tain” Watts\, and Eddie Allen. \nHe has performed at renowned venues including Lincoln Center\, the Blue Note\, Dizzy’s Coca Cola\, Montreal Jazz Festival\, Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall\, the Sarasota Opera House\, and Core Center arena in Philadelphia. Cohen has also contributed to numerous pit orchestras both on and off Broadway. \nHis latest album\, “Winter Sun\,” released in October 2021\, features all-original compositions. Rooted in jazz\, it chronicles a personal challenge Cohen faced at age 13 when he was diagnosed with AML\, a deadly form of leukemia. Decades later\, he found the courage to reflect on and express this experience through his music\, inadvertently creating compositions that echo his initial hospitalization and the grueling nine-week battle with chemotherapy. The album has garnered positive reviews\, substantial radio play\, and has performed well on jazz charts.

It’s an ode to the old friends and faded relationships that accumulate as you make your way out of early adulthood–how\, like the rise and fall of Freybler’s keyboard\, they come rushing up when you least expect\, pulling you heartfirst into an emotional ocean. \nBryn Battani\nSlyly intense and disarmingly earnest\, Bryn Battani weaves clever\, tongue-in-cheek lyrics with vibrant arrangements. Influenced by artists like Fiona Apple\, Andrew Bird and Regina Spektor\, she supports her writing with genre-bending “chamber pop” instrumentation colored by her theatrical background and Western roots. Growing up in Austin\, Texas\, Bryn immersed herself in the area’s dynamic music scene\, co-producing her debut EP All I Have to Offer You Is Anything You Want with Curtis McMurtry and Diana Burgess (of Austin’s Mother Falcon) in 2020. DESCRIPTION:Spells and Curses\nAfter losing a parent\, ending a relationship and leaving unhealthy friend circles all within a few months\, theRave was forced to start a new chapter in life by exercising unfamiliar feelings of love and loss: so he turned to music and formed Spells and Curses. \nBut it was the loss of a family member to suicide that gave his work a focused purpose; to prove that despite our past trauma\, surviving and making a better life is the ultimate revenge. Spells and Curses attempt this by creating music to explore one’s “inner space”\, with songs that act as a “spell” to enhance the moment\, or a “curse” to damn it. \nSince then\, the mission has been to inspire those looking to free themselves from toxic and traumatic environments. To empower people whose attempts at improving their lives are met with resistance or negativity. To show anyone that the venom of opposition can be turned into the basis of courage. This focus on love\, hate\, vitriol\, and freedom has been the tenet of Spells and Curses’ entire output; as seen through self-produced albums (such as SUADADE and Sinful Things)\, to currently releasing a new song and music video every 2 months. \n This show is free to the public and all are welcome! \n

DESCRIPTION:Cassandra Johnson\nCassandra was born and raised in a rural farming town in North Dakota and currently resides in St. Paul\, Minnesota. She is active in the Twin Cities music scene and across genres both as a guitarist and solo artist. Some of her work as a guitarist includes performing with The Good Time Gals at the Minnesota State Fair\, accompanying singer/songwriter Sammie Jean\, and composing for her own jazz/indie band Astronomy Town. As well as supporting others\, Cassandra performs her original songs as a solo act. \nEmmy Woods\nEmmy Woods (she/they) was born and raised on an old dirt* road in rural North Dakota and currently resides in Saint Paul\, Minnesota. With hints of country\, folk\, and blues\, Emmy’s songs showcase both her knack for storytelling\, her strengths in musical artistry\, and an impressive vocal range and ability. When asked to describe her sound in three words\, Dr. Kyle Smith said\, “Queer Farm Vibes… or maybe… Sad Boy Progressive.” While Emmy has been writing songs for over 20 years\, her first collection of songs\, tristia bella\, as well as her albums the manifold and delirium were not released until 2020. She has since formed a band\, the Red Pine Ramblers\, and continues to gain momentum with her genre bending sound.  \n  \nListen to Emmy Woods HERE \nDelicate Friend\nDelicate Friend is a witchy alt-rock project from Minneapolis\, MN including Andrea Leonard (guitar/singer-songwriter)\, Dan Crist (drums)\, Rachel Bearinger (lead guitar)\, and Kourtney Ryan (bass). What started as brother-sister duo\, Nathan Land on the keys and drums and writer and vocalist Rachel Land\, is now a five piece crew playing in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. The siblings grew up playing music near the boundary waters of MN. The band also includes guitarist Bob Reinhardt of Richfield\, bassist Jack Stanek of Minneapolis\, and drummer Yoji Sera of Minneapolis. Lemon Lob plays all original compositions with an occasional cover paying homage to inspirations Alicia Keys\, Bill Withers and others.
