The Hamm Sammies
Maybe it’s because the band is fueled by cheap beer and nice whiskey, but when the Hamm Sammies set out to write country music, their groove strayed from the lines. They gravitated toward a more syncopated, swampy sound: country music played in between the cracks. With a little twang, some Memphis soul, plenty of blues, and even a dash of Sonny Rollins (especially his Way Out West era), their arrangements get people off their seats. If they’re not careful, listeners might accidentally put aside their Midwestern stoicism for the duration of the Sammies’ set.
23Watts
Twin City-based four-piece alt-rock band. Founded by guitarist and singer/songwriter Jeff Lemiesz, who shares lead and rhythm guitar duties with Tim Dempsey. A rhythm section that consists of bassist Shamus Greger and Bill Strohm on drums rounds out the lineup. Together they deliver an eclectic mix of unique material from multiple genres.
Stylistically, 23 Watts’ music is completely their own, but not without the trace of influence. Artists like Cheap Trick, Gov’t Mule, Kyuss, Neil Young, Pixies and Wilco, among others, have all undeniably contributed to their sound as a whole.
23 Watts aims to establish their brand of “all purpose rock ‘n’ roll” in the rich and vibrant community of artists in the Twin Cities and beyond.
