The Mike Cohen Quintet
The Mike Cohen Quintet
Mike Cohen, a versatile saxophonist and woodwind player based in New York City, has an impressive list of collaborations including the Duke Ellington Band, Eric Person big band, Ray Vega, Hank Jones, Harvey S, Jeff “Tain” Watts, and Eddie Allen.
He has performed at renowned venues including Lincoln Center, the Blue Note, Dizzy’s Coca Cola, Montreal Jazz Festival, Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Sarasota Opera House, and Core Center arena in Philadelphia. Cohen has also contributed to numerous pit orchestras both on and off Broadway.
His latest album, “Winter Sun,” released in October 2021, features all-original compositions. Rooted in jazz, it chronicles a personal challenge Cohen faced at age 13 when he was diagnosed with AML, a deadly form of leukemia. Decades later, he found the courage to reflect on and express this experience through his music, inadvertently creating compositions that echo his initial hospitalization and the grueling nine-week battle with chemotherapy. The album has garnered positive reviews, substantial radio play, and has performed well on jazz charts.
